Why do I do this to myself?

May 27th, 2008

If I ever set a comic in an action figure isle again, please e-mail me and remind me that it isn’t a challenge, it’s a punishment. Since Chris chose to comment about movies (which is so relevant, see all the talk of movies in the strip for today?) I should put out some quick takes as well:

Iron Man: Best superhero movie ever. Knocked Batman Begins right out of the top slot (it had a tenuous hold to begin with being from the Distinguished Competition and all). If this trend continues, Marvel Studios has a bright film future ahead of it. If you are the last person on earth who hasn’t seen this yet, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Crystal Skull: When “magic skull” would be a better plot device, you know your flick has problems. Shia LaBeouf did awesome and Harrison Ford wasn’t bad. The movie itself was good enough until the story of the skull was fleshed out. I think George Lucas’s grubby little fingerprints showed all over this thing.  To think I dressed up as George Lucas for historical figure day in high school. If I only knew what he had in store.

21: Best movie I’ve ever seen about math, that is until someone options xkcd.

Next up for me looks to be Speed Racer.  I planned on waiting for the DVD for that one as I wasn’t much of a fan of the cartoon, but Ben says I have to see it as soon as possible. The dude hasn’t steered me wrong yet, so I won’t start ignoring his advice now!

I am amazed by your attention to detail!

Concerning Indy 4. I though the plot of the movie seemed really out of left field at first, because I believed that the captivating thing about the 3 prior is that they seems to be rooted real mythological accounts, okay, maybe not Temple of Doom, but it still seemed somewhat believable.

But after thinking about this new one, I’m actually pretty sure that this legend wasn’t just created by Lucas. It’s just not as well known. Also, in the Raiders and Crusade, were based around biblical accounts, but this was about Mayan accounts so it seems really weird to most Americans. I think Indy summed it up when he said, “It depends who your god is.”

Though you have to agree that Indy can do AMAZING things with a refrigerator.
