Back to the Future Fire

June 6th, 2008

Okay this is going to sound weird but I’m kind of a set nerd. One of my favorite past times in many movies and sitcoms is to spot sets that have been reused.

For instance the basement set used on the Cosby Show is the same as the one used on Third Rock from the Sun and Home Improvement. The set from Growing Pains was used in the first season of Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, the Munsters house sits on the street set for Desperate Housewives and don’t get me started on the Boy Meets World set, that thing gets around.

It’s always been a fun little game for me, and annoyance for all who know me and have to deal with “Did you see that staircase?” or “I’m pretty sure this ones from Frasier“.

Well I have sad news, the Clock tower/Town square set from Back to the Future, one of the most re-used and fun to spot sets out there, has burned down. (For the ten of you who watch Ghost Whisperer, yeah that means your set is gone too).

This really makes me upset because for me and my sad little sit spotting game that was always a perennial favorite to see how each show tried to mask such a prominent sets origins and failed miserably.

So I guess this adds “Save the Back to the Future Set” to the list of to-do’s when Doc Brown actually shows up with a time machine.
