They Only Accept Visa or Oxen
Ominous Knife is not a political comic, nor do we have any aspiritions toward political punditude, but I think it goes without saying that the current economic situation is bound to produce rather…unorthodox results. Sure, we may not revert to the barter system immediately, but eventually goods and services will become legal tender in and of themselves. Then we’ll all see if those panflute lessons actually paid off. Until then, however, we still have to honor our national currency, no matter how worthless it may soon become.
But still, it would be difficult to find an institution that accepts what amounts to good intentions in this day and age. I mean, sure, a fatted calf would be fantastic for whatever wild bacchanals are held at a private school for twelve-year-olds, but that’s really only a one night affair. What the boys need is something more permanent; I’d suggest everlasting gobstoppers, but we all know what would happen with those.
Of course, the pendulum may swing towards total chaos, in which case the Mad Max-ian future depicted in Thedar’s and Walt’s drawings would be not only accurate, but prophetic. And all this time we thought Walt was just crazy and Thedar was just a foreigner. Tangentially, if one of you intrepid readers can figure out where Thedar is from I think you deserve some kind of prize.
Needless to say, the boys are going to have some trouble getting Thedar into a prestigious school…or any school, for that matter. I think they may have hit on something with the robot, though…

I think Thedar is from the nation of Robonia, a country he did not make up.

I second the notion above me, and provide another; He’s from some nation that speaks Coptic.

Thedar is obviously a portmanteu of thomas and ceder, which leads me to believe Thedar is actually from a backwoods area of Canada or possibly even the United States. Barring that, western names have become increasingly popular in Eastern Europe, and troubled former Soviet bloc nations may be home to those weery enough to send children overseas in internet scams. So I say Eastern Europe, assuming Thedar is not from North America.
