I’ve probably forgotten you…

April 27th, 2009

I’m not going to cover the same ground Chris did, so if you were already on his list, assume yourself to be double thanked.

At this one year mark, thank yous are definitely in order. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a spread out collection of friends, peers, relatives and enemies to raise a webcomic.

A huge thanks to Brian from Photorunby for the hosting. Without him there honestly would be no Ominous Knife. He’s the one that pushed us over the edge from “We should do this one day” to “The server is all set up, here’s your domain, call me if you need anything.” in the course of one fateful lunch.

Props to Cullin for his love and support, Shawn D. for his keeping the comments interesting and not killing us that it took us so long to introduce his character, DJ who’s Facebook gave us a huge amount of traffic when we where just starting out. Steve-bob for being an all-around friend and cheerleader of the site and giving us some promotion help, Jon A. for his support and messages, Becci for the support and often being a sounding board for “does this look right?” or “does this sound right?” for the strip, Chris M. for his support and directing his fans to our site (dude why do you keep denying the world a webcomic by you, you’d be king of them all!), Ben for always talking about the comic with us and the link love, Kelly for being our first and best superfan, Josh for the business advice and commitment to making sure this comic works and we are always moving forward and Addie for creating the first physical piece of Ominous Swag (a Kidthulhu baby bonnet!)

To our webcomic friends, Matt from Big Sandy Gilmore, Daniel from Monster Commute, Carlisle from Steal this Comic, Tom from Theater Hopper, Jef from Jefbot, George from Addanac City, Joe from Indecisive Comics, Chris from Ninjas Don’t Knit and  Chris from Life of Ronnie, Adam and Bridges from Save Hiatus and Barry from InkTank who all at different times over the past year have given us support in different ways like encouragement, comradery, advice, inspiration, plugs, linkage or just a note to let us know they checked us out and enjoyed what they saw.

To the Halfpixel guys, without “How to Make Webcomics” this would be a terribly ugly long-loading site that bleeds money, with an overly verbal comic that doesn’t fit in your monitor. But even beyond that to three of its authors: Dave for answering questions,  Scott for encouraging us,  Brad for answering questions, encouraging us, giving us advice and even checking us out.

Support from my parents, friends, chiropractor, students and everyone else who has taken the time to check us out, stumble the comics, comment and let us know you enjoy it.

And to Tina, my wife, for giving up a lot of time and being patient with me to allow me to get this comic done, and Vivian my daughter for not spitting up on my tablet.

You guys are all part of our big Ominous Family and we’re thankful for all of you.

If you keep reading, we’ll keep creating.

Ominously Yours,

Kevin

Congrats on your one year anniversary! Liked today’s easier to read strip, too!

First of all, you just cursed your tablet. Now that Vivian can read (that happens this early, right?) she will see this post and do it on purpose to spite you for pinching her cheeks…or just because all babies hate their parents.

Second of all, here are two things that if I don’t experience this year from Ominous Knife I will blow you up: a “bear?” t-shirt and updates more than once a week.

Do you want to explode? I don’t think so.

Awesome guys. Keep on working hard.

The advice that I consistently get from everyone successful that I’ve talked to… is not quitting.

I think it’s the “magic” that so many people are looking for.

It’s not the kind of pencil your comic idol uses, the kind of software they use, or the secret technique that they use to color their art; it’s the tenaciousness to never quit, to keep challenging yourself, and keep working hard.

Thanks Kev. You make not wanting to kill you so easy. But if you slip up…… so help me I will squash everything that you love.

  5. Matt Says:

Awesome! Good work guys! Thanks for the shout out.
