This Joke is Also Applicable to Jamiroquai
I totally feel for Calvin in this story. I too was duped by Rick Astley’s smooth tenor voice, and it wasn’t until about four years after he’d faded that I found out he looked less like Barry White and more like Ron Howard.
I guess that’s a slightly moot point, since a person’s appearance obviously has no bearing on their vocal prowess. Half of Britain’s Got Talent is based on this fact alone. I mean, have you seen those singers? They look like normal people who were left out in the sun too long and melted a little. For those guys to get a reprieve on a show that’s based equally on looks and ability, says a lot about not judging a book by its cover.
But I digress. Rick Astley is a villian. Perhaps not on par with Megatron or Scaramanga, but a villian nonetheless. His deception of a few bright-eyed urbanites notwithstanding, the guy presumably also ruined Walt’s chi flow. What kind of monster would do that?

Do mine eyes deceive me or does Calvin have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hat on??? And did you know the dude who originally started the rick roll was on Oprah? She’ll have anyone on her show won’t she?
This has been another useless fact…
Good comic guys!

Great, now all I can think of is Nick Nack and Starscream being irritating in the same room as Rick Astley’s Sidekick, whoever that is.

I like how you tied a foozeball table that we’ve seen before. That’s a clever writing tactic that we’d see on shows like Lost and movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Oh and I just noticed the Scarlet Spider mug…awesome.

That foosball table part cracked me up!

There is a continuity problem here. This fooseball table originally appeared in “Seasoning”, but in that comic, “Rick Rulz!” is not written on the side! Did it get written on by Wendigo in a time machine and this is just a separate dimension from the Ominous Knife of old? I could accept that if it were the case, I mean, I’ve let other companies get away with that kind of crap before… repeatedly in fact… with a smile… and a dwindling bank account.

If you go back to Season(ing) you’ll notice that that particular part of the Foosball table is obscured by the word bubbles. You see a small sliver of that corner without writing and in today’s strip that same sliver is bare and the words start a bit higher up. Don’t worry, we got you, and if we ever do make a mistake like that I can safely assure you that one of our characters will absolve their marriage in a deal with the devil in such a way that it re-writes out all those supposed errors. Or we can go that other way and have one of our characters punch reality so hard that the continuity errors fix themselves.

And the first Ominous Knife canon discussion has occurred. It’s all downhill from here, folks.

Rick Astley’s sidekick is obviously 4chan itself, for who else created the Rickroll? Excellent comic this week!
